My Story

TaLena started out as a dancer and gymnast when she was five years old. She was a member of the Bismarck Gymnastics Academy where she performed and competed in USAG Gymnastics. TaLena also did drill team as well as studio dance growing up. TaLena was on the All Star Team and Varsity Team in high school and competed at regional, state, and national competitions. TaLena always had a love for studio dance and has studied and competed for Northern Plains Dance, Let’s Dance Studio, Culture Shock Dance Studio and Studio X... A New Generation of Dance.

TaLena was with Studio X...A New Generation of Dance for her last three years of high school and competed with them under the Direction of Joshua Wise. At Studio X, TaLena had the opportunity to compete in many competitions winning numerous regional, national, specialty, and choreography awards throughout her dance career. Regionally, TaLena placed within the top 3 her sophomore, junior, and senior year. In TaLena’s junior and senior year she placed 3rd overall in the senior category at Celebration Talent Competition Nationals in Wisconsin, Dells in the years of 2015 and 2016. During TaLena’s senior year she received first place overall at the following regional dance competitions: Leap!, International Dance Challenge, Starpower, and Celebration. At Celebration, she also received a “Superstar Award” which entitled that she had the highest scoring routine at the Celebration Regionals Dance Competition for solo and group routines ages 13 and over. Along with TaLena’s accomplishments, she won title awards at Leap! and Starpower. TaLena has participated in multiple dance conventions including Modas, NFDC Boot Camp, Jump!, Celebration, and 24/7. During her thirteen years of being a dancer herself, Miss TaLena has studied various styles of dance including jazz, ballet, pointe, contemporary, lyrical, modern, hip hop, pom, kick, and acrobatics.

TaLena started her coaching career when she was a senior in high school. Her first group dance that she ever choreographed by herself won 1st place at numerous competitions regionally and nationally along with her first choreography award. TaLena felt that this was a sign to continue on with her dance journey as a coach and choreographer as she attended college. Eight years later, TaLena has received endless amounts of choreography and judges choice awards for her work. The majority of teams and dancers she has coached and choreographed for have consistently been in the top 3 Regionally and Nationally. With the involvement and dedication TaLena had to studio dance she started choreographing for dance productions. TaLena was an assistant director for The Lion King, Moana, Frozen II, and The Grinch. TaLena has also worked with and choreographed for drill teams throughout North Dakota on top of her commitment to studio dance. TaLena has high hopes for her future in the dance world and with the belief that she can learn from anyone, she plans to continue to her growth and love for dance as a choreographer, coach, and mentor.
